Welcome to the Grant Thornton grad experience

Grant Thornton has never been a typical professional services firm. Yes, we deliver the services you would expect from a global accounting and advisory firm, but this is where the similarities stop. Grant Thornton occupies a unique place in the New Zealand market - we’re known for being down to earth, personable and for taking a genuine interest in our clients and our people - and their success. The only things treated like a number at Grant Thornton New Zealand are… the numbers.

Who we are

Grant Thornton has a bold purpose. By unlocking the potential for growth in our people, clients and our communities, we believe we can help shape a vibrant economy where no-one gets left behind. We’ll achieve this through building trust and integrity in markets, unlocking sustainable growth in dynamic organisations, and creating environments where businesses and people flourish.

Our people are curious individuals who love helping clients succeed. We know nothing stays the same so embracing the possibilities of change and exploring new horizons is part of who we are. We hire graduates who are excited about the future, run towards a challenge and are keen to give things a go. Our people are fun, energetic, diverse, and super friendly. This is a place where everybody knows your name and that’s just the way we like it.

We work with banks, regulators and government to build trust. We work with dynamic organisations to help them grow. And we work with the public sector to build a business environment that supports growth, including national and local public services.

Who we're looking for

Free to be yourself, confident and approachable, you must be a great relationship builder who can inspire the people around you with your energy and ideas. You’ll learn how to help our clients to tackle their burning issues and future challenges. Listening hard and asking the right questions is at the heart of providing great business advice. We’ll enable and empower you to do just that, so you can show initiative and bring new ideas and perspectives to the table.

Remuneration & Career Growth

Never stop learning

As a graduate, you’ll get the regular, structured training required to become a professionally qualified, trusted business advisor. You will be given a range of assignments to give you breadth of experience, along with variety in client sizes and sectors to build your tool kit.

Mentoring and support

You will be assigned a senior people development leader who will work with you to sign off your practical experience requirements for your qualification, and a buddy – your go to person to support you on your day-to-day learning journey.

Flexible working

Our hybrid working model

Our hybrid working model gives you just enough time in the office to collaborate and build relationships, as well as some time and space at home. It comprises three days in the office and two working from home; one of your three days in the office is a designated team day to ensure you stay truly connected with your teammates.

Dress for your day

Our dress code gives you the freedom to wear smart casual clothing for days when you’re not meeting with clients, and to don more formal business attire for appointments with clients and other external stakeholders.

Take some time for yourself

Work a nine-day fortnight, get paid for 10 days

Every Friday afternoon (or whatever works for your team) is free for you to pursue hobbies, catch up on personal admin, or to simply decompress and recharge.

Pay it forward

We’re always looking for ways to make a difference in our communities. That’s why you get one day off per year (with full pay) to volunteer with an organisation that’s close to your heart.

Your wellbeing

We all know the importance keeping active to improve physical and mental wellbeing, which is why  we provide all permanent team members with an opt-in get active allowance, paid on a monthly basis up to $1,040 per year. So whether you’re a regular at the gym or just want an incentive to start your fitness journey, your Get Active allowance is read and waiting.

Salary and benefits

Everyone at Grant Thornton enjoys a competitive salary based on local market rates and the cost of living. We also provide our new graduates with a starting bonus. As you study towards your professional qualification - either CA or CPA - the firm will pay for your membership fees, module registration fees, provide paid study leave, have subject matter experts available to answer questions, and provide workshops to help you cement your learning.

The social scene

We work hard and play hard too – and we pick up the tab! Our social club is dedicated to providing fun events and entertainment throughout the year, all of which are fully funded by the firm. Team members also enjoy complimentary access to team-based social sports including touch rugby and indoor netball.
